STARBASE Gary is the premier educational program sponsored by the Department of Defense [DoD]. STARBASE Gary provides engaging “hands-on”, “minds-on”, science, technology, engineering, and math experiences to students in Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland.

STARBASE - Gary

STARBASE Gary is sponsored by the 113th Engineer Battalion of the Indiana National Guard and is located inside of the National Guard Armory in Gary, IN. Opening our doors in May 2018 has allowed us to bring FREE hands-on learning and the exposure of STEM concepts to the students in the region, providing them a line of sight into the possibilities of the World of STEM careers.

We welcome students, families, community outreach programs, school districts, administrators, teachers, support staff, and sponsors to join us in our mission to promote STEM education and career awareness in the Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland Areas.

STARBASE 1.0

Designed for 5th grade students, STARBASE 1.0 aims to motivate students to explore STEM opportunities. Through "hands-on", "minds-on", and exploratory activities, students investigate topics like molecular model structure and engineering design.

Summer STEM Academies

These immersive Summer learning programs cover an array of STEM topics and experiences, with a summer camp flare, which are designed for students who just can’t get enough STEM. Summer Academies feature activities like aviation, robotics, computer programming, rocketry, dissection labs, cybersecurity, and more!

STARBASE 2.0 (Advanced)

Our structured afterschool program combines collaborative exploration, mentoring, community STEM career partnerships, and afterschool investigative activities to support and enhance STEM interest and knowledge for 6th-12th grade learners.

Community Outreach

STARBASE Gary partners with school districts and community groups to provide stand alone STEM experiences for students, families, and practitioners throughout the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana region.
